Your visit should not become your identity.
GameVigil uses privacy-conscious analytics to understand whether pages are useful, where traffic comes from, and whether automated or abusive traffic is affecting the service. We deliberately avoid retaining full raw IP addresses.
What we collect
- Page path, page title, referring page without query parameters, language, timezone, screen and viewport size.
- A random session identifier created in your browser after you allow analytics.
- Server-side country, region, city, network/ASN, device category, and a truncated IP network.
- An irreversible keyed hash of the IP address for approximate unique-visitor and abuse analysis.
- GA4 measurements after consent, configured with IP anonymization.
- Microsoft Clarity interaction data after consent, including clicks, scrolling, heatmaps, and session replays. Sensitive page content is masked using Clarity's masking controls.
We do not collect passwords, Steam login details, payment details, or cross-site browser fingerprints. Game request submissions are described below.
Game tracking requests
When you request US Steam price tracking, we store the game name, Steam App ID or Steam URL you submit, a request identifier, submission times, aggregate request count, review status and internal review notes. Please submit game details only. No account or email is required. Requests are reviewed manually before a game can be added.
For abuse prevention, we temporarily store a keyed, daily-rotating hash of the connecting IP address with hourly request counts; the full address is not stored in request records. Rate-limit entries expire after one day and are removed during collection maintenance. Game request and review records may be retained while the request or game remains relevant to the service. To request removal of your submission, email hello@gamevigil.com with its request identifier.
IP protection
The full IP address may be present briefly while the hosting edge processes a request, as it is for ordinary web hosting. GameVigil does not write the full address to its analytics database. We store a secret-keyed hash and a truncated network only: IPv4 /24 or IPv6 /48.
Retention
Detailed first-party analytics events are retained for up to 90 days. Daily aggregated statistics may be kept longer because they no longer contain individual event rows. Security records may be retained longer when needed to investigate active abuse or meet legal obligations.
Display preferences
Your selected Steam store country is saved in a functional cookie for up to one year and in this browser's local storage. It is shared by the homepage and Free to Keep page and is independent of analytics consent. It does not change your Steam account's country.
Your choice
Optional analytics runs only after you choose “Allow analytics.” We also respect the browser Do Not Track signal. You can change the local choice below; clearing site storage also resets it.
Service providers and contact
The site uses its hosting provider, Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity after consent, and webmaster tools operated by Google and Microsoft. This notice will be updated if the data flow changes. Privacy questions can be sent to hello@gamevigil.com.
